Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Townsend Under State Police Investigation

TOWNSEND, DE – The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on the evening of November 29, 2023, in Townsend, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old woman.

At around 5:33 p.m., a 2005 white Mitsubishi Galant, driven by a 39-year-old woman from Dover, was heading south on Dupont Parkway near Main Drive. Simultaneously, the pedestrian, wearing dark clothes, was in the southbound lanes in an area lacking street lighting. This led to her being struck by the Mitsubishi and falling onto the roadway. Following this, a gray 2019 Toyota Tacoma, driven by a 49-year-old man from Townsend, and a blue 2012 Mazda CX-9, driven by a 51-year-old woman from Smyrna, also struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a resident of Townsend, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding her identity pending notification of her family. None of the drivers involved in the accident sustained injuries.

The incident caused a closure of the roadway for about five hours for investigation and clearing operations.
