Fatal Pedestrian Crash Under Investigation in Newark

NEWARK, DE – A pedestrian accident in Newark on Monday evening resulted in the death of a woman.

The incident occurred on January 1, 2024, at about 6:38 PM. A 2020 Jeep Compass was traveling west on Old Baltimore Pike near Torrington Way when it struck a 63-year-old pedestrian. The pedestrian, wearing dark clothing and without any reflective gear, was in the westbound lane and was hit by the Jeep.

The victim, a Newark resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is withheld pending family notification.

The Jeep’s driver, a 28-year-old woman from New Castle, was not injured in the incident. The road was closed for around three hours for investigation and cleanup.
