Fatal Traffic Accident In D.C. Kills Elderly Man

WASHINGTON, DC—The D.C. Metro Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit is currently investigating a fatal traffic accident that took place early Wednesday morning.

Early Wednesday morning, at approximately 2:19 AM, a sedan traveling northbound near the Frederick Douglas Memorial Bridge on South Capitol Street, Southeast, crashed into a drainage ditch after failing to navigate a curve properly.

The driver, 89-year-old John Alfonso Candela of California, Maryland, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
