Elkins, WV – Two West Virginia residents have been indicted by a Grand Jury in Elkins on charges related to illegal firearms purchases. John Allen Shomo, 52, of Coalton, faces charges for the straw purchase of a firearm and making a false statement during the acquisition of a .40 caliber pistol. Court documents reveal that Shomo falsely declared the firearm was for his personal use while buying it for someone barred from possessing firearms due to a felony conviction.
Similarly, Stacy Lynn Cave, 40, of Elkins, has been indicted for buying a .223 caliber rifle on behalf of a felon, also making a false statement on the purchase forms. These cases are being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner and were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives alongside the Mountain Region Drug Task Force.
