Fire Damages Deal Public Works, Firefighter Suffers Injury

DEAL, NJ – A structure fire at the Borough of Deal Department of Public Works was discovered during a routine patrol in the early hours of the morning.

At around 3:00 a.m. on September 10, Patrolman Zach Bell was on patrol when he noticed the smell of something burning on Norwood Ave. After canvassing the area with other officers, Bell located a fire at the Deal Department of Public Works on Runyan Ave. The Deal Fire Department and several mutual aid agencies were dispatched to contain the fire.

The blaze was confined to two overhead bays and extended partially to the second floor. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for chest pain and difficulty breathing but has been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local authorities, the Deal Fire Marshal, and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office.
