Fire damages multiple apartments in Perth Amboy building, no injuries reported

PERTH AMBOY, N.J. — A fire early Sunday morning forced the evacuation of a multi-unit apartment building on Hidden Village Drive, though no injuries were reported, according to the Perth Amboy Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched at 4:20 a.m. to 602 Hidden Village Drive following reports of a smoke condition. Firefighters arriving on scene found smoke inside several apartments in building 6 and discovered an active fire burning in the void spaces between the first and second floors.

Firefighters deployed two hoselines while conducting searches throughout the affected building. All occupants were safely accounted for as the fire was brought under control.

“There were no injuries at this incident,” the department said in a statement posted to its official Facebook page. The fire is currently under investigation by the Perth Amboy Fire Investigation Unit.

Twelve apartment units were impacted, with the city’s relocation officer assisting the families from three of them. The remaining nine units were deemed safe for residents to return.
