Firefighter Injured in Explosion at Clayton Block Trailer Fire

On Monday, September 4th, 2017 at 4:22 PM, the Stafford Township Police Department responded to Clayton Block located at the end of Beachview Avenue for a report of a structure fire.

Investigation indicated the structure fire involved an older, construction trailer that was on the Clayton Block property. While the fire was being extinguished, a propane tank that had been near the trailer exploded. As a result of the explosion, a State Forest Fire Service member sustained a minor arm injury. He was treated at the scene, and released.

This incident is being investigated by Detective Drew Smith of the Stafford Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Fire Marshall’s Office.

The following agencies also responded: Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit, the State Forest Fire Service, the Stafford Township Fire Company, the Barnegat Township Fire Company, and the Stafford Township First Aid Squad.
