BRIDGEVILLE, DE – Delaware State Police arrested James West, 48, of Delmar, Delaware, on Sunday evening, following a five-car collision in Bridgeville. West faces charges for vehicular assault and DUI.

On Sunday, at approximately 6:50 p.m., troopers arrived at the intersection of Sussex Highway and Redden Road, responding to a report of a multi-car crash. West, one of the drivers, failed to stop for traffic because of distraction by his phone. During the encounter, troopers found West possessing a baggie of suspected heroin and drug paraphernalia. They also noted signs of impairment. West was taken into custody without incident.

West’s Ford Escort collided with a Dodge Charger and a Honda Odyssey, causing both vehicles to hit a Chevrolet Silverado and a Kia Telluride, respectively. The Odyssey’s driver and passenger, and the Telluride’s driver, were transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. West now awaits a court hearing for several charges, including three counts of vehicular assault and driving under the influence of drugs.
