Five Foot Long Python Snake Found in Manhattan Apartment Basement

Manhattan, NY – On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting a snake at 140 West 87th Street, within the confines of the 24th Precinct.

The caller reported seeing a snake crawling up an exterior gate and attempting to enter a basement apartment. Responding officers observed a python at the location. The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit arrived on the scene, secured the snake, and safely removed it to the ASPCA. The python was approximately 5 feet long.

The investigation into how the snake ended up at the location is ongoing.
