DOVER, Del. — The Dover Police Department announced Tuesday the death of retired K-9 Reeko, who served the department for nine years before retiring earlier this year.

Reeko, who was 11, passed away while living in retirement with his longtime handler, Cpl. Figueroa.

Trained in explosive detection and patrol, Reeko assisted in numerous law enforcement operations, major events, and public safety efforts throughout Delaware during his service.

“He spent his retirement with his handler, Cpl. Figueroa,” the department said in a statement.

The department credited Reeko’s work with helping to keep the Dover community safe and expressed appreciation for his contributions.

No details regarding the cause of death were released.
