Former Employee Involved in Fatal Shooting at Port of the Islands Hotel

COLLIER COUNTY, FL – A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon at the Port of the Islands Hotel when a former employee entered the facility and fatally shot a hotel employee. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported that the suspect was later found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in an office of the hotel.

The incident began at approximately 3:25 p.m. at the hotel located at 25000 Tamiami Trail East. Following the shooting, deputies swiftly responded to the scene and commenced an evacuation of the hotel. A comprehensive search of the hotel and surrounding areas was conducted by the CCSO, involving the SWAT, Aviation Unit, Drone Unit, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Greater Naples Fire Rescue District, and Collier County EMS.

The suspect, identified as a former employee of the hotel, was eventually located deceased in a hotel office. The victim, a current hotel employee, succumbed to their injuries.
