COLUMBUS, OH – Four teenagers are facing charges after police recovered a stolen vehicle and found a loaded firearm inside during an early morning stop on the city’s east side.
Police said the incident began when a grey Ford Fusion was reported stolen November 20 from the 300 block of East Stewart Avenue.
The following morning, around 4:44 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of North Monroe Avenue and located the stolen Ford occupied by four juveniles.
As officers ordered the teens out of the car, they discovered a loaded handgun on the driver’s seat.
Driver had multiple active warrants
The 15-year-old driver, who already had multiple warrants, was taken into custody and now faces additional charges of receiving stolen property, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, and having weapons under disability.
Three passengers also charged
The other three juveniles in the vehicle were each charged with receiving stolen property – motor vehicle.
Police said the firearm and vehicle were both recovered as evidence.
All four juveniles were transported to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center pending further proceedings.
