Frederick County mom wins $500,000 in Powerball Double Play

FREDERICK, Md. — A Frederick County resident, who chose to remain anonymous and goes by “Super Mom,” is celebrating a life-changing $500,000 Powerball Double Play win. The lucky winner hit the second-tier prize during the Sept. 25 Double Play drawing after adding the option to her Powerball ticket for just $1.

“I couldn’t breathe, I was hyperventilating and I was in shock. It doesn’t feel real,” said “Super Mom,” recalling her reaction when she realized she had won.

A loyal Powerball player since 2021, “Super Mom” routinely adds the Double Play option, which offers a second drawing using the same numbers 30 minutes after the regular Powerball draw. While she usually picks personal numbers, this time she opted for a quick-pick ticket, which resulted in her big win.

“I like the numbers that came out,” she said with a smile, expressing gratitude for her unexpected good fortune.

The Western Maryland resident plans to use the prize money to buy a new home and save for her children’s college education.

The winning ticket was purchased at Wawa, located at 5440 Urbana Pike in Frederick. The retailer received a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket. This marks the sixth winning Double Play ticket sold in Maryland in 2024 and the largest prize so far this year.
