Frederick Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Sexual Abuse of a Minor

FREDERICK, MD – Today, Frederick County Circuit Court Judge Richard Sandy sentenced 26-year-old Jose Nelson Guerra-Sanchez to nine years in prison. The sentence comes after Guerra-Sanchez was found guilty of Sex Abuse of a Minor, with the court suspending the remainder of a 25-year sentence.

The charges stem from an incident reported on February 14, 2023, when a Frederick Police Department detective was called to investigate a delayed report of sexual abuse. Forensic interviews at the Child Advocacy Center revealed that Guerra-Sanchez abused the victim, who was 14 at the time, when he was 23.

Guerra-Sanchez was convicted on April 9, after a bench trial overseen by Judge Sandy. Upon his release, he will undergo five years of supervised probation, have no contact with the victim or minor children, and must undergo a psychosexual evaluation. Additionally, he is required to register as a sex offender for life and will be under lifetime sex offender supervision.
