PATERSON, NJ – A joint investigation by the Paterson Police Department and Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office led to the arrest of 26-year-old Anderson Martinez, from Paterson. The arrest relates to a shooting investigation that occurred on Independence Day this year.
On the evening of July 4, at approximately 11:34 pm, Paterson Police were notified of two young males arriving at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center. Both the 20-year-old and the 19-year-old Paterson residents sought treatment for non-fatal gunshot wounds.
Investigation found that the victims were shot near Essex and Madison Streets in Paterson, where a potential crime scene was identified.
Following their investigation, Paterson Police identified Anderson Martinez as the alleged shooter, resulting in a warrant for his arrest. Paterson Police apprehended Martinez around 3:00 am on Wednesday, near 21st Avenue and Chestnut Street in Paterson.
Martinez is charged with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, and Aggravated Assault. If convicted, the charges carry substantial prison sentences.
