Fugitive Sought for Deadly Shooting in Newport News

Newport News, VA – The Newport News Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on January 27, 2024. At approximately 7:49 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 1100 block of 35th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Jave Irvin Edwards, a Newport News man, outside with at least one gunshot wound. Edwards was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Through investigative efforts, detectives have identified 39-year-old Paul Joseph Mulleano, also of Newport News, as a suspect in the homicide. Mulleano is described as a black male with hazel eyes, approximately 5’11” tall, weighing 145 pounds, and possibly sporting pink and black braids. He is known to use the alias “Goo-Goo.” On January 29, 2024, warrants for Mulleano’s arrest were issued, charging him with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and other weapons offenses.

The NNPD urges anyone with information regarding Paul Joseph Mulleano’s whereabouts to contact authorities immediately.
