ABSECON, NJ – The driver of a 2006 Mercedes was killed after being involved in a crash with a New Jersey Transit bus in Absecon Friday evening.

Police said John Barker, 48, of Galloway, died in the crash that occurred at around 5:00 PM at the intersection of S. Shore Road and Ohio Avenue.

“Officers responded to the call on Thursday and found a passenger vehicle and a NJ Transit bus, both with significant damage. Life-saving measures were provided to all involved. More than a dozen occupants aboard the bus sustained injuries,” the Absecon Police Department reported. “Investigators learned that the crash occurred while a NJ Transit bus was traveling north on S. Shore Road negotiating a left turn onto Ohio Avenue. A 2006 Mercedes sedan was traveling south on S. Shore Road. The impact occurred at the intersection. The sole occupant and driver of the sedan died from injuries sustained in the crash.”

Police at this time believe speed is a contributing factor to the seriousness of the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately five hours while the crash was investigated.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, NJ Transit Police, Absecon Fire Department, and numerous EMS mutual aid personnel assisted.

Any witnesses to the crash are urged to contact the Absecon Police Department, Traffic Safety Unit at (609) 641-0667 ext. 208.
