ATLANTA — Megachurch pastor Jamal Bryant referred to Black supporters of former President Donald Trump as “coons” and “runaway slaves” during a speech, sparking controversy over his remarks.
“I feel bad for them coons in the White House who are in there tap-dancing for master, wearing bow-tie, shinnin’ and grinding, laughing like nothing is funny,” Bryant said.
He continued by criticizing those who align with Trump, saying, “These runaway slaves hiding in the White House, going to throw my picture up thinking that I’m going to be afraid?”
Bryant, the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, has been an outspoken critic of Trump and conservative Black voters. His comments have drawn backlash, with critics calling them racially charged and divisive.
