Girl Who Burned Down Wisconsin Walmart Released from Custody

SPARTA, WI – Emma R. Smith, a 17-year-old resident of Sparta, appeared in Monroe County Circuit Court today, December 27, 2023, facing multiple charges including Arson, First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Criminal Damage to Property, and Disorderly Conduct.

The charges are in connection with an arson incident at a Sparta Walmart. Judge Radcliffe, presiding over the case, set a $5,000 cash bond for Smith, along with several special conditions. These conditions include GPS monitoring and a directive prohibiting contact with any Walmart stores.

Walmart reports millions of dollars in damages during the arson.

Following the court’s decision, Smith was released from jail on bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for January 29, 2024.
