The writ specifies that nomination petitions for those seeking a party nomination must be submitted by 4:00 PM on Friday, May 10. Furthermore, independent candidates must file their direct nomination petitions by the day of the special primary election. This action, required under New Jersey statutes N.J.S.A. 19:3-27 and N.J.S.A. 19:27-4, aims to fill the vacancy for the term ending January 3, 2025.
