TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is returning to America after just a few days on his summer vacation at his Italian villa.
During his absence, Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, who was serving as acting governor was admitted to the hospital and passed away suddenly at the age of 71.
According to the governor’s office, Governor Phil Murphy returns to the state following the passing of Lieutenant Governor Sheila Y. Oliver.
In a gesture of respect and mourning, Governor Murphy will sign an Executive Order directing that both U.S. and New Jersey flags be flown at half-staff across the state. This tribute will honor the life and service of the late Lieutenant Governor, who had been integral to the state’s leadership.
Later in the evening, Governor Murphy will make a private visit to pay his heartfelt respects to the late Lieutenant Governor, sharing a moment of reflection for the cherished memories and contributions she made to New Jersey.
During this visit, Governor Murphy will also meet with members of the Oliver family to offer his condolences and support during this difficult time.
