TRENTON-If you’re not specifically listed as one of Governor Murphy’s clear and concise list of essential, or you are not sure, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy says, you’re more than likely nonessential.
“We want to be very clear about what is essential, we want you to assume that everything that is not on that list is nonessential,” Murphy said. “If you are a business and you make something, you gotta have a 100% work from home policy in place and we expect people to stay home.”
“If you’re non-essential and you’re traveling between 8 pm and 5 am, we want you off the roads,” Murphy said. “We’re basically saying that’s 24 hours. We don’t want you out there. Period.”
New Jersey State Police Superintendent Patrick Callahan said violators could be charged with a disorderly persons offense for violating the Governor’s executive orders.
Here’s a list of essential businesses…
- Grocery stores, farmer’s markets and farms that sell directly to customers, and other food stores, including retailers that offer a varied assortment of foods comparable to what exists at a grocery store
- Pharmacies and medical marijuana dispensaries
- Medical supply stores
- Gas stations
- Convenience stores
- Ancillary stores within healthcare facilities
- Hardware and home improvement stores
- Banks and other financial institutions
- Laundromats and dry-cleaning services
- Stores that principally sell supplies for children under five years
- Pet stores
- Liquor stores
- Car dealerships, but only for auto maintenance and repair, and auto mechanics
- Printing and office supply shops
- Mail and delivery stores
- Restaurants provided takeout and delivery only
