Grand Jury Indicts Man for Deadly 2006 Shooting After SWAT Raid

The Franklin County Grand Jury has indicted DeShawne R. Stewart on two counts of murder related to the shooting of Wendell Davis on July 8, 2006. Davis, who was left wheelchair-bound due to a catastrophic injury from the shooting, passed away on May 19, 2023. Following an autopsy, the Franklin County Coroner’s office declared his death a homicide on May 23, 2023.

On February 19,, at approximately 4:08 PM, Stewart was apprehended by the Columbus Police SWAT team on the East side of Columbus. The arrest was executed without incident, and Stewart has been detained at the Franklin County Jail.
