Three generations hit big win on bingo scratch-off
ABINGDON, MD – What began as a routine family scratch-off tradition ended in a $30,000 shock when three generations gathered to play and uncovered the largest prize any of them had ever seen.
A Harford County woman claimed her $30,000 Diamond Bingo top prize Sunday, Feb. 23, at Maryland Lottery headquarters. She said she regularly meets with her father and grandmother to scratch tickets together.
Two weeks ago, her father picked up several tickets, choosing bingo-style games at the request of his mother and daughter.
As they scratched, the Abingdon resident believed she had uncovered a $1,000 win. After passing the ticket to her grandmother for a second look, questions arose about whether the prize amount was larger.
Her father took the ticket to a nearby lottery retailer for scanning. The result confirmed a $30,000 top prize.
Diamond Bingo is a $3 scratch-off game that debuted in June with seven $30,000 top prizes. Four top prizes remain, along with 55 $1,000 second-tier prizes.
The winning ticket was sold at Tempo Lounge, 402 Back Neck River Road in Essex. The retailer will receive a $300 bonus for selling the ticket.
