Grocery run turns into K jackpot for Maryland woman

Prince Frederick woman hits $50K jackpot on JURASSIC PARK scratch-off while grocery shopping

PRINCE FREDERICK, MD – A routine grocery run turned into a massive payday for a Calvert County woman who scratched her way to a $50,000 top prize on a JURASSIC PARK-themed Maryland Lottery ticket.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Giant grocery store located at 655 Solomon’s Island Road North in Prince Frederick. The Prince Frederick resident, an elementary school teacher, was checking out her groceries when she stopped at the in-store Lottery vending machine to grab a few scratch-offs. Rather than play the full game, she used the prize check code and scanned each ticket one at a time.

One of the tickets immediately triggered a message instructing her to “see cashier,” a signal often associated with significant wins. She was informed on the spot that her ticket was worth $50,000.

After confirming the prize, she ran outside to her brother waiting in the car. The pair re-entered the store to scan the ticket several more times for reassurance. The woman later secured the ticket at home before claiming the prize on January 12 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

She stated her plans include using the money to pay down debt and remodel her home. The Giant store where the ticket was sold will also receive a $500 retailer bonus.

The JURASSIC PARK scratch-off game still has two remaining $50,000 top prizes available, along with three $5,000 prizes and many smaller cash awards ranging from $5 to $1,000.
