Group Assault and Robbery on Northbound Train, One Arrested

NEW YORK, NY — In an early morning incident aboard a northbound train, a 28-year-old male was robbed of his cell phone by a group of five individuals. The event escalated into violence at the 57th Street-Seventh Avenue Station on Sunday.

At around 3:00 a.m., after being robbed, the victim challenged the group, which led to him being punched and kicked multiple times. When the confrontation spilled outside the station, the assault continued until police intervened, leading to the arrest of one individual from the group. The other four suspects fled on foot.

The victim was transported to Mount Sinai West and is in stable condition. Jhonni Diaz, a 20-year-old male from Irvington, NJ, faces multiple charges, including robbery and gang assault. The NYPD is searching for the remaining suspects.
