Two suspects arrested after armed home invasion rocks Dorchester neighborhood
Boston, MA – A reported armed home invasion in Dorchester ended with two suspects in custody Wednesday evening after police surrounded an apartment, recovered a loaded handgun and seized dozens of grams of fentanyl, authorities said.
Around 6:15 p.m., officers responded to a breaking and entering in progress at a residence on Bentham Road after receiving information that suspects were inside and a firearm had been seen. Officers set up a perimeter around the building and attempted to make contact at the front door without success.
Police at the rear of the building spotted two men inside the apartment. One suspect was taken into custody inside the residence and was found carrying multiple black zip ties inside his jacket, investigators said.
The second suspect jumped from a bedroom window and ran toward Mount Ida Road. Officers chased him on foot and quickly caught him. Along the escape route, police recovered a Taurus 9mm pistol with a round in the chamber, a magazine loaded with 11 rounds, gold-colored bracelets and 14 plastic bags of fentanyl weighing about 39 grams.
Investigators said the suspects pointed a firearm at the victim during the home invasion and stole an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry. Detectives processed the apartment for evidence, and a vehicle believed to belong to the suspects was located nearby and towed pending search warrants.
Michael Collins, 53, of Boston, and Rashard Brown, 34, of Dorchester, were arrested and are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on numerous firearm, drug and violent crime charges.
