Hackensack man, 19, arrested after cyber crimes unit raid uncovers lewd images of children

HACKENSACK, NJ – A 19-year-old Hackensack man was arrested Friday after investigators found evidence of child sexual abuse material during a search of his home, authorities announced.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Jonathan D. Veloz was taken into custody following an investigation led by the Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit.

The search warrant was executed Friday morning with assistance from local and regional law enforcement agencies.

Cyber Crimes Unit investigation

The investigation began after the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit identified online activity linked to the possession of illegal child sexual abuse material. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Veloz’s Hackensack residence, where digital evidence was collected.

Authorities said Veloz used the internet to view, download, and store explicit materials depicting prepubescent and pubescent minors. The case remains under review as prosecutors examine the seized electronic devices for additional evidence.

Cooperation among multiple agencies

The Hackensack Police Department assisted with the operation, along with the New York City Police Department and Waldwick Police Department, both part of the Bergen County Cyber Crimes Task Force.

Veloz faces one count of third-degree possession of child pornography under New Jersey law. He was booked into the Bergen County Jail and is awaiting a hearing in Bergen County Superior Court.

Prosecutor Musella emphasized that the charge is an accusation and that Veloz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
