HAGESTROWN, MD – A Hagerstown resident took an unconventional approach to selecting Powerball numbers, leading to a $50,000 win.
The 52-year-old woman reused numbers from a previous non-winning ticket for the October 11 drawing, a decision that ultimately paid off.
On October 7, the woman initially bought a three-line Powerball ticket using the quick-pick method, which did not yield any matching numbers. Rather than feeling disheartened, she opted to give those same numbers another try for the subsequent draw. “I didn’t get a single number so I went to the store and asked for the exact same ticket,” she said.
This bold strategy saw her fortunes reverse dramatically; she managed to match four white balls and the Powerball number in the October 11 drawing. She narrowly missed the grand jackpot but still became one of four third-tier prize winners from Maryland.
Upon realizing her win, the woman recounted her disbelief: “I checked it about 10 times. Then I took the dog for a walk and came back to check it again,” she told sources. She verified her win through the Maryland Lottery app.
Currently employed at a trucking company, the Hagerstown winner plans to use her $50,000 prize as a down payment on a new home. The winning ticket was bought at Martin’s #6444, located at 18726 North Pointe Drive in Washington County.
