MARTINSBURG, WV – Todd Matthew Raymond of Harpers Ferry faces charges linked to theft of government property and firearms-related offenses.
Court documents reveal that Raymond worked for U.S. Customs and Border Protection in a role that involved the disposal of decommissioned weapons and confiscated firearm components. He is accused of taking these firearms and components and later selling some of them.
Raymond’s charges include theft of government property, doing business without a license, having a stolen firearm, obliterated serial number, and possession of an unregistered firearm. Each charge of theft, stolen firearm, and unregistered firearm could lead to up to 10 years in federal prison. The other charges carry potential sentences of up to 5 years each. A federal judge will decide the sentence after reviewing U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutory elements.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Salem represents the government in this matter.
The investigation involves the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General; and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility.
Being indicted only means allegations have been made. Raymond is considered innocent until his guilt is determined in a court.
