Hayes Man Wins Wins $200,000 by Upgrading Powerball Ticket to Power Play

Powerball lottery

HAYES, VA – Joseph Saunders, a small business owner from Hayes, won $200,000 in the Powerball drawing on December 30.

Saunders, who often remarks, “I never win anything,” was pleasantly surprised by his near-jackpot win. He matched five numbers – four plus the Powerball number – in the drawing. While this typically awards $50,000, Saunders’ decision to opt for the Power Play feature for an extra dollar quadrupled his prize.

“I couldn’t believe I had them all but one!” Saunders exclaimed, expressing his excitement about the win.

The winning ticket was purchased at Achilles Shopping Center, located at 9361 Guinea Road in Hayes. Saunders chose the Easy Pick option, allowing the computer to select his numbers randomly. The winning numbers were 10-11-26-27-34, with a Powerball number of 7.

Despite the significant win, Saunders has yet to make specific plans for his winnings.
