Hazmat suit wearing suspect arrested for murder of 67-year-old NYC bodega worker

NEW YORK, NY – Police have arrested 39-year-old Bronx resident Kimond D. Cyrus for the March 3rd murder of 67-year-old Sueng Choi.

Choi was pistol-whipped and shot in the head during a botched robbery at the Daona Gourmet Deli at 201 East 81 Street. Cyrus, an ex-convict, was arrested near his home in the Bronx early Thursday.

He has been charged with murder and illegal possession of a weapon. Police found the white hazmat suit he was seen wearing on the night of the murder behind a Park Avenue building.

Police believe Cyrus robbed a second bodega approximately twenty minutes after killing Choi.

In response to Choi’s murder, Mayor Eric Adams pleaded for store owners to request that customers unmask themselves after entering their business.
