FORT LEE, NJ – Veolia, the major water provider for North Jersey, has issued a boil water advisory for many of its customers. The company announced they had detected ecoli in water samples tested this week.
Ecoli bacteria can cause stomach cramps and dirareah.
“A boil water advisory is in effect for Fairview, Cliffside Park, Ridgefield, Edgewater, Fort Lee, Palisades Park and Leonia,” the company said. “Customers in these municipalities should boil their water for one minute for the following: drinking, cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets and all other consumption.”
The company said water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing dishes and clothes.
“We will continue to provide updates and you will be notified when the order is lifted. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience,” Veolia said in a statement late Thursday night.
