DEPTFORD, NJ – Health officials have reported that a food handler at the Olive Garden on Almonesson Road in Deptford, Gloucester County, tested positive for Hepatitis A.
This viral infection can be transmitted through food preparation by individuals with unwashed hands.
Hepatitis A is known to cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and jaundice, usually appearing 2 to 7 weeks after exposure. In response to this health concern, the Gloucester County Department of Health is offering vaccinations to coworkers who may have been exposed to the virus.
Olive Garden management confirmed that the affected employee last worked at the restaurant ten days prior to receiving their diagnosis. The employee will not be permitted to return to work until cleared by health officials.
