Hillsborough Man Charged for Distributing Lewd Pictures of Children

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. – A 60-year-old Hillsborough man is in jail today after being arrested for distributing lewd images of children on the internet. According to Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart, Gary J. Babey, age 60, Haverford Court, Hillsborough, New Jersey was arrested for possessing and distributing child [censored]ography in the Township of Hillsborough.

The tip on Babey came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) who notified the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office of an apparent upload of images of child [censored]ography.

“An investigation was thereafter initiated by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations/Computer Crimes Unit. The investigation revealed that Babey was suspected of sending numerous images of child sexual abuse material to another individual,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Acting Prosecutor Taggart stated as a result of this investigation, on Monday, May 2, 2022, Babey was arrested at the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and charged with 2nd degree, Distribution of Child Pornography and 3rd degree, Possession of Child Pornography. Defendant Babey was lodged in the Somerset County Jail where he will remain pending a detention hearing under New Jersey’s Bail Reform Act.
