NEW YORK, NY— Assamad Nash, a homeless man convicted of a brutal murder in New York City, had pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony. This week, he was sentenced to prison.
The attack happened in Chinatown.
Christina Yuna Lee, a 35-year-old woman, was fatally stabbed in her Chinatown apartment in a horrific attack that occurred early on February 13, 2022.
Nash, 25, was charged with first-degree murder and burglary, including a charge described as “sexually motivated.”
Nash allegedly followed Lee into her apartment, overpowered her at the door, and attacked her, leading to her death from over 40 stab wounds.
Neighbors’ attempts to intervene were too late despite hearing Lee’s screams.

Nash was apprehended by police after a brief standoff and attempted to mislead officers by mimicking Lee’s voice to suggest she was unharmed. The incident has sparked discussions on community safety and the targeting of individuals based on race.
He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, recommended by the District Attorney’s office.
