Suspect arrested in Southern Avenue shooting after victim’s hospital visit
WASHINGTON, DC — A man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a February shooting in Southeast Washington that left a man injured and walking into a hospital on his own.
Granderson McClenton Spruill III, 30, of Suitland, Maryland, was taken into custody on Tuesday following the execution of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. He faces charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred around 11:46 p.m. on Monday, February 10, in the 2200 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast. Police initially responded to the 2300 block after reports of gunfire. Shortly afterward, an adult male arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.
Further investigation revealed the shooting had actually taken place a block away from the original dispatch location. Police have not said how the suspect was identified, nor whether the victim and Spruill were acquainted.
The case remained open for ten months before police made the arrest. Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting or what may have motivated the violence.
