Authorities say skeletal remains believed to belong to an adult were found during a coordinated search in the Whitesboro section of Cape May County.
Cape May Court House, NJ – A quiet wooded area in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township became the focus of a multi-agency investigation after a resident discovered what appeared to be a human skull while walking through the area.
The discovery was reported Tuesday to the Middle Township Police Department after the county resident encountered the remains in the woods. Authorities quickly secured the area and began an extensive search of the surrounding property.

Multi-agency search uncovers additional remains

Following the initial report, investigators from the Middle Township Police Department and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office launched a coordinated search operation in the wooded area.
Assisting agencies included the Lower Township Police Department, the Cape May County Land Search and Rescue Team, and the New Jersey Department of Corrections Land Search and Rescue Team.
During the search, investigators located and recovered skeletal remains believed to belong to an adult.

Officials say the remains have not yet been positively identified.
Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said the investigation remains ongoing and additional details will be released as they become available. Authorities emphasized there is currently no known threat to the public.
