New research from TurboDebt reveals that New Jersey leads the nation in the prevalence of prenuptial agreements, with nearly one in five married couples (17%) in the state having a formal prenup, surpassing the national average of 13%. This indicates a growing acceptance of prenups as essential financial planning tools in marriages.

The study found that 32% of unmarried individuals view prenuptial agreements as a potential detriment to marital stability, describing them as a ‘recipe for disaster’. TurboDebt’s survey, which involved 3,000 married couples, highlights a divide in perceptions surrounding the agreements.

Josh Stomel, Co-founder of TurboDebt, emphasized the importance of prenups in providing clarity and security in financial matters within marriages. “Prenups are increasingly recognized for their role in preventing contentious disputes and ensuring clear financial responsibilities,” Stomel stated.
