Ice arrests ecuadoran migrant charged with child rape in massachusetts

BROCKTON, Mass. — On February 25, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers arrested Jose Oswaldo Castro-Castro, a 31-year-old Ecuadoran national illegally present in the United States, in Brockton, Massachusetts. Castro faces charges of aggravated rape of a child with a ten-year age difference and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, as indicted by the Plymouth County Superior Court on April 20, 2023.

According to ICE officials, Castro entered the United States illegally on an unspecified date and at an unknown location, bypassing inspection, admission, or parole by U.S. immigration authorities. The arrest took place in Brockton, where Castro was apprehended by ICE Boston officers.

Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston, condemned Castro’s actions, stating, “Jose Oswaldo Castro-Castro illegally crossed our borders and appallingly victimized a child in Massachusetts.” Hyde emphasized the agency’s commitment to public safety, adding, “Castro has done unspeakable damage to our community that we cannot tolerate. Arrests like this only fortify our commitment to our mission of prioritizing the safety of our public by arresting and removing criminal alien offenders from our New England neighborhoods.”

Following his arrest on February 25, Castro remains in ICE custody as the legal proceedings continue. The case highlights ICE’s ongoing efforts to identify, apprehend, and remove undocumented individuals who commit serious crimes in the United States.
