ICE arrests MS-13 associate wanted by Interpol, found living near Long Island school

Brentwood, NY – A 42-year-old Salvadoran national wanted in his home country for violent crimes was arrested on Long Island after authorities discovered he was living just steps from a middle school, federal officials announced.

Homeland Security Investigations New York took Jamie Manual Perez Perez into custody on Sept. 3 during a vehicle stop in Brentwood, with assistance from ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Perez Perez, an alleged associate of the MS-13 gang, was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice on charges of aggravated extortion and making threats to injure a person in El Salvador.

“This alleged MS-13 associate resided mere feet from school property and went about his life virtually unchecked and consequence-free — until his past finally caught up with him,” said HSI New York Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel. “Children deserve to safely go to school each day without the fear of what evil might be lurking next door.”

Perez Perez was initially apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol in April 2019 after crossing the border illegally near El Paso, Texas. He was issued a notice to appear in immigration court and placed in removal proceedings, with a hearing scheduled for February 2026.

He remains in ICE custody pending removal.
