Ice arrests venezuelan woman in fatal lake grapevine jet ski hit-and-run

DALLAS, Texas – U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a Venezuelan woman accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal jet ski collision that killed a young woman kayaking at Lake Grapevine over Memorial Day weekend.

Daikerlyn Alejandraa Gonzalez-Gonzalez, 22, was taken into custody in Dallas on May 27 on a state felony manslaughter warrant. The arrest followed a joint operation involving ICE, state, and local law enforcement.

Authorities say Gonzalez was operating a personal watercraft at high speed near Oak Grove Park on May 25 when she struck a kayak occupied by 18-year-old Ava Moore. The collision resulted in Moore’s death. Gonzalez fled the scene with a female passenger aboard the jet ski.

Gonzalez and her passenger later returned to the park. The passenger remained and was interviewed by Grapevine police, while Gonzalez left the area in a vehicle with 21-year-old Maikel Coello Perozo, also a Venezuelan national.

Both suspects in custody and under immigration review

Coello has been charged with hindering apprehension. ICE has lodged immigration detainers on both individuals, who are now in removal proceedings as unauthorized immigrants. Gonzalez had previously entered the U.S. illegally in September 2023 and was released on an order of recognizance. Coello entered without authorization in January 2023 and was also released pending a hearing.

“This criminal alien and her boyfriend will account for the tragic accident that ended the life of a young woman who exhibited enormous potential,” said ICE Dallas acting Field Office Director Josh Johnson.

The investigation remains active and includes multiple agencies, including the Texas Department of Wildlife, Grapevine Police Department, U.S. Marshals, and Homeland Security Investigations.
