REVERE, MA — A Guatemalan national living in the United States illegally was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Revere after being charged with assaulting a child and a family member, officials announced Monday.

Arrest follows local criminal charges
ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Boston took 46-year-old Cosme De Leon-Barrios into custody after his arrest by Revere Police on Jan. 27 for charges including assault and battery on a child with injury and assault and battery on a family member.
Following his release from local custody, ICE officers arrested De Leon-Barrios and placed him in federal custody.
Illegal entry flagged by immigration officials
According to ICE, De Leon-Barrios entered the United States on an unknown date, at an unknown location, and was never inspected, admitted, or paroled by immigration authorities.

“Cosme De Leon-Barrios is charged with brutally assaulting a child with an injury in our Massachusetts community,” said ICE ERO Boston Acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde.
Ongoing custody and immigration proceedings
De Leon-Barrios remains in ICE custody as officials initiate removal proceedings. ICE emphasized that cases involving individuals charged with violent crimes remain a top enforcement priority.
