Ice captures guatemalan migrant charged with child sex crimes in connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a 21-year-old Guatemalan national in Hartford on Feb. 20 who is facing multiple felony sexual assault charges, including offenses involving a minor.

ICE’s Boston Enforcement and Removal Operations Hartford field office took Yosmar Imai Bravo-Ortiz into custody following charges of second-degree felony sexual assault, fourth-degree felony sexual assault, and felony risk of injury to a minor filed in May 2024.

“Yosmar Imai Bravo-Ortiz has been charged with sex crimes against a member of our Connecticut community,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting field office director for ICE Boston ERO. “Bravo-Ortiz represents a threat to our New England neighborhoods that ICE will not tolerate.”

Bravo-Ortiz first entered the United States illegally on Oct. 25, 2018, when he was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol near Sasabe, Arizona. He was subsequently transferred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement and released from federal custody on Dec. 22, 2018.

Hartford Police arrested Bravo-Ortiz on May 14, 2024, following the criminal allegations involving sexual offenses and a minor. ICE took him into custody this February, and he remains detained.

Officials have not yet released further details on court proceedings or removal actions.
