Illegal Migrant Deported in Louisiana After Unauthorized Entry

NEW ORLEANS, LA – U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the sentencing of Hugo Brian Fuentas-Eguigurens, 27, by United States District Judge Darrel James Papillion on March 12. Fuentas-Eguigurens has been sentenced to 14 months imprisonment following his guilty plea to the charge of illegal reentry of a removed alien.

The court also imposed a 1-year term of supervised release and ordered the payment of a $100 special assessment fee.

Court documents revealed that Fuentas-Eguigurens unlawfully reentered the United States after a previous deportation on April 26, 2019. He was discovered in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, on April 1, 2023, after a routine Immigration Alien Query indicated his illegal presence. An immigration detainer was subsequently issued following his arrest by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office on March 31, 2023. Fuentas-Eguigurens has a history of arrests and convictions, including for simple escape and resisting an officer.
