Illinois woman arrested for stealing $50k in items from home after Christmas

TAVERNIER, FL – A Riverton, Illinois woman was arrested Thursday following the investigation into a Tavernier home burglary in which $50,000 worth of items inside were stolen.

Vicki Risley, 64, was charged with burglary and grand theft over $20,000.

The burglary on the 100 block of Redwing Road was reported to the Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 29, 2021. The homeowner stated $50,000 worth of decorations, toiletries, clothing, a vacuum, furniture, pillows, cookware, video game consoles, a paddleboard and various other household items were stolen.

Detective Matthew O’Neil talked to a witness who described a woman seen coming and going from the residence. The witness identified Risley via a photo line-up.

Risley had been staying in an RV on Redwing Road and claimed to be a property caretaker.

Risley was found and interviewed. She admitted to taking the items in the house.

Most of the items stolen were found in a storage locker opened by Risley as well as inside her RV.

Risley was subsequently taken to jail.
