Infant dies after being left in car in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – A 4-month-old baby died Tuesday afternoon after being left inside a vehicle near 5th Street and Princeton Avenue, according to authorities.

Emergency responders from Hatzolah arrived shortly before 1:30 p.m. and attempted to revive the child. The infant was then transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where they were pronounced dead.

Officials have not disclosed how long the baby was inside the car or if any charges will be filed.

The Lakewood Police Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Incidents involving children left in vehicles continue to be a serious concern, with similar tragedies occurring across the country each year.
