NEW CITY, NY – A known violent offender has been sentenced to more prison time after a shank attack on jail officers in New York,

Darius Williams, a 35-year-old from Spring Valley, New York, has been sentenced to a total of 14 years in state prison. The sentencing comes after Williams was found guilty of multiple felony assaults against Rockland County Sheriff’s Corrections officers. The Honorable Kevin F. Russo imposed the sentence following a two-day bench trial in December 2023 at the Rockland County Criminal Court.

Williams, deemed a predicate violent felony offender, received two consecutive 7-year terms for separate assaults. These sentences will be served in addition to a current 7-year sentence for a previous felony assault conviction involving a street attack with a weapon.

The charges arise from incidents within the Rockland County Jail on four dates in 2023: January 11, February 15, February 17, and July 31. Alongside the assault convictions, Williams was also found guilty of two counts of Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and an additional count of Assault in the Second Degree. Judge Russo ordered these sentences to run concurrently with the 14-year term.

Details of the incidents include the discovery of a shank during a cell search, assaults on corrections officers following handcuff removal, and the possession of a homemade weapon concealed in a sock. The assaults resulted in injuries to corrections staff, with one sergeant sidelined for several months due to his injuries.
