Investigation Into Maryland Firefighter’s Death Continues

ST. MARY’S COUNTY, MD – On Thursday, The Office of the State Fire Marshal confirmed that the investigation into the house fire that claimed the life of Firefighter Brice Trossbach is ongoing. While the on-site examination has concluded, further evidence examination is under progress.

The fire, which occurred early on Tuesday morning, prompted responses from several departments, including the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department and Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

The blaze led to a floor collapse, trapping Trossbach. Despite resuscitation attempts, Trossbach succumbed to his injuries. Two other firefighters were also injured during the incident but have since been treated and released.

Investigators from various offices, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), continue to collaborate on the investigation. All potential causes are being examined, including the possibility of a lightning strike reported by owners and neighbors.
