JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – Last month, Jackson Mayor Jennifer Kuhn and the Jackson Council announced a new initiative to report malfunctioning streetlights in town. So far, most of the reported street lights reported in November have been repaired, but First Energy said it is working on some of the lights that need more than just a bulb replacement, and that can take more time.

“We understand that the residents can self-report to power company, but most people don’t have the time in a day to follow up with them and deal with the back and forth,” said Council President Mordechai Burnstein. “Because this can become a safety issue, we decided to spearhead the contact with First Energy so we, as a town, know what is being fixed, what’s not being fixed, what’s being delayed and why.”

Mayor Kuhn said she and the council check frequently with First Energy for bulk status updates, and this week, they received the latest report.

According to the company, it takes some time to research all of the orders being placed by Jackson, but all of the streetlights reported as of December 5th have been repaired.

The following streetlights are scheduled for follow up for further work. These jobs are assigned on a daily basis depending on weather, emergency work, and material availability:

When it comes to requests for LED lights in problem areas, that process can take longer. According to First Energy, all of the recently requested new LED streetlight installations are still with JCP&L Engineering for design.

Typically, it can take 6-9 months from the time an order is received until it is installed,” the company told the town this week.

“We will continue to keep up on the company to make sure that all of the requests for repairs are completed in a timely manner,” said Mayor Jennifer Kuhn. “We will provide regular status updates to the residents as we receive them. Please be patient and if your light is not on this list and it’s taking a long time, please let us know so we can follow up and find out why.”

“Please continue reporting malfunctioning lights, and thank you to all of the residents who have reported these so far. With your help, we have accomplished a lot in just one month,” Burnstein added.
